Over the last few years, the initiatives in AI at the policy level established by the Government of India (GoI) and the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) have driven significant interest in AI across various other segments, especially at the grassroots levels of Education, Agriculture, and Infrastructure. The GoI, MeitY, and NASSCOM have all instituted significant programmes around AI to establish a cohesive national AI strategy across various segments in India.
This research study highlights 21 use cases that can serve as a starting point for various state governments for implementing AI solutions across large development scales.
The country’s policymakers believe that AI will create a transformative impact across various segments of the economy, both in terms of access and quality of services – the impact would be across public and private sectors. Hence, India’s AI strategy, outlined in the Report of the AI Taskforce by NITI Aayog, a government think tank established by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, focuses around “Responsible #AIforAll”.
The GoI and various Ministries are already harnessing the power of AI to solve some of the most pressing social and economic challenges. AI in India is now empowering the nation’s workforce and is enabling enterprises to access and build innovative solutions and capabilities, thereby strengthening the nation’s democracy.
